Building a Skincare Routine From Scratch

The essentials, in order.

A good routine is not a shelf full of bottles. It is three or four products, used consistently, in the right order. Start here — and add nothing else until these feel like second nature.

Cleanser
Step 01

Cleanser

Start with a gentle, non-stripping cleanser — morning and night. This one step matters more than any serum you will layer on top of it.

Look for: creamy or gel texture, no harsh sulfates, fragrance-free if you can.

Moisturizer
Step 02

Moisturizer

Hydration is not optional. Even oily skin needs it. A good moisturizer protects the skin barrier and makes everything else you use work better.

Look for: ceramides, glycerin, hyaluronic acid. Apply while skin is still slightly damp.

Sunscreen
Step 03

Sunscreen

The single most important step of your morning. SPF prevents more damage than any anti-aging serum can ever undo.

SPF 30 minimum, every morning, even indoors. Reapply if you are out for long.

Treatment (optional)
Step 04

Treatment (optional)

Once the basics feel effortless, add one active — a vitamin C in the morning or a retinoid at night. One at a time. Give it six weeks.

Introduce slowly, twice a week to start. Stop if skin feels raw or reactive.
